Post black metal trailblazer Unreqvited teams up with multi-instrumentalist Sylvaine for an exploration of musical paths. The outcome is "Time Without End," an amalgam of shared respect and experimentation that pairs two divergent styles for one incredibly memorable listening experience.
Whereas the Canadian, who goes by the signum of 鬼, picks up on previous inroads into orchestral realms yet implements more acoustic elements than ever before, the Norwegian focuses on her vocals and highlights melodies, a clear step beyond her latest and third album "Atoms Aligned, Coming Undone." Thus, Unreqvited sets his so-far lightest music against his most darkest, namely the simultaneously released album "Mosaic II," and once again stresses his ever-mercurial quality.
Meanwhile, Sylvaine follows her inspirations from "the struggle of human society and how it feels to watch as it slowly fall apart" with stripped-down arrangements for one track and lush layering on the other called 'No More Solitude,' which has existed in different versions for several years. Since Unreqvited's work is devoid of lyrical content in favor of shrieks and screams, the wordless singing featured by Sylvaine on Unreqvited's track 'Interwoven' eventually melds both their efforts together.

"The second half of the EP is from Unreqvited and sees a morphing away from his usual post black metal style towards more symphonic, introspective and perhaps even orchestral passages. ‘Interwoven’ is augmented by vocals from Sylvaine, which have no lyrics that I could discern and instead saw them working as an additional layer of instrumentation. This symbiosis is extremely powerful and creates a mesmerising soundscape. Unreqvited close the EP with ‘Fields Of Elysium’ which is an evocative instrumental piece. While it is subdued there is a subtle underlying air of malice loitering behind the warmth and comfort of the music." 9/10

On this recording Unreqvited brings in more of a mixture of post black metal, and orchestra music while also having more of a traditional post rock style than previous releases and the production sounds very dark. In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Unreqvited and if you are a fan of post black metal, shoegaze, post rock and orchestrated music, you should check out their side of the split. Recommended track: "Meadows of Elysium"." 8/10

The Ember, The Ash is my side project. A far darker, more aggressive sound with more of a traditional black metal vocal style. Fans of my darker material should definitely check this out! Unreqvited
